The 2019 Good Sam Academy of Miniatures

The Good Sam Academy of Miniatures offers classes taught by miniaturists that are leaders in their selected fields and have been teaching their skills to miniaturists for several years. Classes take place immediately after the 2019 Good Sam Show, in Morgan Hill, California.

We are pleased and excited to offer the following workshops:

  • Class #1 - Marquetry Dower Chest circa 1850 with Chris Malcomson
  • Class #2 - Robins Egg Spring Confections with Ruth Stewart, Stewart Dollhouse Creations

Class #1 - Marquetry Dower Chest circa 1850 with Chris Malcomson
  • Scale: 1:12th scale
  • Skill Level: Intermediate/Advanced
  • Cost: $250
  • Class Duration: 2 Day Class, Monday, October 14 & Tuesday October 15, 9:00am - 5:00pm
  • Registration Deadline: October 7

Marquetry Dower chest c1850. Students will learn the art of veneering in all its complexity including miniature cross banding, moving on to designing and making the marquetry panels, and finally, polishing. Students will learn some wonderful techniques from a marquetry specialist of 25 years and will be able to apply it to their own projects. The size of the chest is 2 inches wide by 1 ¼ inches high by 1 ¼ inches deep.

All materials and fittings, polishes and finishing materials will be furnished. Students should bring a sturdy craft knife, cutting board, 6" steel ruler, set square and spotlight if you need one.

  • Registration Deadline: Day of class.

Spring is such a happy time of year and what better way to celebrate than with a Blue Robins Egg Theme! This table of confections will make your mouth water as you learn easy and fun ways to work with polymer clay, sculpt cakes, make cupcakes with a fun easy silicone mold and decorate with a beautiful easy to use buttercream style frosting. This will leave you craving to make more. Your woodland scene will be placed on a beautifully designed table with legs to look like a tree trunk, branches that hold up your cottonwood leaf table top and intricate laser cut doilies to add the element of style. You will go home with a finished table of goodies and a box full of tools to take and make more! 

Supplies/Tools needed: Tweezers and X-Acto knife. Lighting and magnification if needed. Supplies, like extra frosting, available for purchase.
